How to handle the battery with safety?

Time needed: 2 hours and 30 minutes

Never position yourself or others under hoisted loads. Always stay arm’s length from hoisted batteries.
Be aware of the 2-ton rated load capacity of this equipment and never exceed the limit.

  1. Splash-proof goggles or face shields, jackets, and work gloves must be worn at all other times.

    Batteries on charge produce Explosive Hydrogen Gas!
    Connector cables can cause ELECTROCUTION.
    Always turn-off charger BEFORE disconnecting the battery.
    Turn-off all chargers when not in use – an explosion may occur if a “LIVE” charger is connected to a battery! Articles of any kind (which may act as electrical conductors) are never to be placed on (atop) batteries
    Batteries must be cooled-down after charging, before re-installation into lift-trucks.

  2. Hydrometer Readings

    • Full Charge Approximately 1.280 (High Acid Count)
    • Discharged = Approximately 1.140 (Low Acid Count)

  3. For health and hygiene reasons, goggles and rubber/work gloves are not to be shared.

    All appropriate employees are issued her/his own personal gear.

When it is necessary to add water to raise the level?

Add water to raise the level of electrolyte to a limit of 14 inches above plates. Never proceed to charge a battery if it has been overfilled with water.

Crane Operation

  • Stabilize swaying batteries with great caution
  • If at any time the hoist or controls throw off sparks, cease operation. There are explosive gases present in the battery area.
  • Do not attempt to repair a malfunctioning hoist. Repairs are to be completed by a qualified mechanic.
  • Only approved devices are to be used to attach a battery. Never use anything other than the equipment supplied.
  • Do not engage in any activity that will divert your attention from the operation of the hoist.
  • Stay alert.
